Another day trip tour. Our guide Jay-Lo offered to take a picture of Dave and me. This is what I found on my camera.
He was a real card and did a greatjob of guiding. There were about 20 in our group.
First stop. Sintra.
Pena castle.
There is a mountain, if you know the Rockies, its a hill. It has been used as a place to worship the moon. The Celts were one of the first, the Moors, and Portuguese. Others but i can't remember.
Eventually a German prince, Ferdinand, married a Potuguese princess becoming the King of Portugul. He built a palace on the mountain for her.
This is part of the.older Moorish castle
The Moors gave up their castle on the mountain top for a guaranty for peace if the gave it up.
Regaeira
Another incredible UNESCO site in Sintra.
This has a history dating back to the knights Templar to the Freemasons.
This site is on a extinct volcano and is full of lava tubes/tunnels.
The story goes that to become a Mason you must enter through the Gate to Hell in total darkness with a sword to your heart. Then wonder the tunnels and come out under a waterfall.
Gate to hell.
Dave and me at the gate.
Then down the inverted tower.
The tunnels to the waterfall.
Bird of Paradise
Next Cabo de Roco
A Cape on the coast of Partugal.
Sand dunes and huge waves and the end of the world.
From that point to Washington DC is 5000 km of nothing but the Atlantic ocean.
The photos don't give justice as to huge these waves are.
Next to Cascais
Tres expensive property. No commerce here. You have to out of town to buy groceries or gas.
This is where we had lunch at 3pm.
We had Potuguese paella, which has a tomato base and only sea food. Crab, lobster, clams, muscles. Also much wetter. Yummy !!
So hungry I didn't take pictures until we had only leftovers.
And shells
