Lisbon February 23, 2026
When we arrived at the hotel there several red vehicles. Like this one
I thought it was the bomb squad. Nope just the fire department. Which is across the street. Seems they park their vehicles on the road.
For the day Dave used the 'hop on hop off' map to create a walking tour.
1.Marquis de Pombal is the guy on the pedestal which is in the middle of a major round-about. Its about a block from our hotel. He was instrumental in restoring Lisbon after the 1755 earthquake.
2. Edward VII park is right behind the Marquis.
We spotted student several places do stuff. Apparently some kind of on going frosh activities.
Then we say this marvelous old building.
3. A longer walk to the aquaduct.
Built in the 18th C .It is 58 km in total. Survived the 1755 earthquake. Was used to transport water until 1968.
3. Botanical Garden.
Planted in 1873 with subtropical species from around the world to be a living laboratory for university students. Surrounded by a wall we didn't know we found it until we came to the entrance. Once inside the sounds of the city disappeared and was replaced with bird song.
A stop over looking the city before walking the last leg of our tour.
Second Portuguese wine. This time another region.
