Uchuck III back to Gold River. September 27, 2024
Woke up this morning to the wind gone, the rain gone and skys blue! The crew told us the storm was so violent and the ship was tossing to badly they thought to move it. Their night was way worse than ours up at the Inn.
Zebellos used to be one of the regular stops on their rou. With the road coming through they no longer needed supplies to come by ship. It was no longer needed to transport the villagers in and out. This happen with many of the small villages. The Uchucks needed to change.
We were able to see a lot more on our way back. We saw whales several times no Orcas mostly Humbacks.
Several times we stopped to watch the sea otters. Unlike river otters who come out of the water, sea otters do not. When at the surface the float around on their backs. The first mate told us the carry a stone in a little pocket they have. The otters use the stone to open clams, mussels and oysters on their bellies.
The scenery was exceptional.
Most of our stops were at fish farms. The cargo we off loaded was pallets of fish food, fuel, bottled water, and garbage dumpsters. Empty pallets, empty water bottles and full dumpsters.
On the way back with all the sunshine I had to share my place on deck.
I will always remember this trip. It was in many ways life changing. I hope to do it again.
