Tombstone near Gilbert Ray AZ. Feb 18, 24

Today went to the wild west.
Tombstone is a real town with about 1000 residents. The tourist part is in the downtown. All the stores are in restored buildings from the 1800's. The street is blocked off with ropes and is made of dirt. There are covered boardwalks for the pedestrians.
There are lots of tourists of course and many people in period costumes. Most of them are actors.

The Bird Cage Theatre existed during the times of cowboys, outlaws  and gun stingers. The history goes like this:
It was opened on December 26, 1881 by Lottie and Billie Hutchesinson. Billie was a variety performer and planed to have family friendly shows. It didn't take him long to figure out this wasn't going to work and the performances became increasingly  raunchy.
When you walk into the loby there is a woman giving some interesting info. The bar in the lobby is original as are the walls, ceiling and some of the art work. Most of what she shares is where the bullet holes are. 148 in all!

The bars had a very western saloon feel about them.

Sometime the wild west meets the 21st century.

The OK corral is still there. However, there is an entrance fee including a reenactment of the famous gunfight. We skipped this as there were plenty of gun fights going on in the street.

Walking the dusty street in the hot sun is thirsty work. We followed the sound of music to the Tombstone Brewing Company

Complete with live music.

We bought some homemade tamales from Goya who came round the pub selling them. Very yummy 😋
