Alamo in San Antonio near McK Falls st.pk TX. Feb 04, 24
This is the Alamo. The whole place has the feeling of a shrine. Rules include taking hats off in buildings, no shirts with obscenities. Clearly a memorial to those who lost their lives for our freedom. This is the place where they lost to Mexican leader Santa Anna.
Last year we were at San Jacinto. This is were the Texans beat Santa Anna and gained freedom from Mexicand form their own republic. While very impressive it is less well known. This doesn't make sense to me but then who am I.
This is a statue of the Yellow Rose of Texas. The legend has it that she distracted Santa Anna before the battle at San Jacinto.
She was a real person. Possibly Emily D West a free woman of mixed race hired as a housekeeper of General Morgan. Or perhaps Emily Morgan a slave of General Morgan. The story is mostly a legend.
The Alamo is in downtown San Antonio where the river walk is. It's a total of 15 miles. We only walked a small piece. It is exceptional.
There were several electric barges on the river giving tours. We got some tidbits of history as the went by.
This is a place we would consider returning to.
