Saw this tree when I was walking Suki. I'd been seeing open pods on the ground. This was the first time I'd seen the pods still on the tree. Dave and I walked back later to take this photo. The pods are 6-8 Inches long.
Fun facts. This is a Texas Ebony tree. It is an evergreen and its wood is extremely hard and very dark to black. Mostly they are scrub brush but can grow to be 30 feet tall with a canopy 15 feet across. Mostly found in Mexico but grow as far north as Laredo.
The wood was traditionally used to make the black keys on a piano. They are also used as bonsai.
The pods and beans are edible. When cooked the beans are a good source of protein. The pods when young can be boiled as a vegetable.
As for us we are still mostly chilling 😎. Weather is mostly overcast, foggy and warm.
