Pancho Villa NM & π²π½ Dec 04, 23
Planning a day trip to Mexico today. Border is only 3 miles away and there is a small town right at the border. You can park on the USA side and walk over if you choose.
As the border doesn't open until noon we decided to explore the park and see the Pancho Villa museum.
On our walk we may have seen the most useless sign ever.
We all know the vegetation is designed to cause grievous bodily harm.
As for wildlife I spotted a large flock of Sand Hill Cranes they make the weirdest sound, Quail which are ever so cute and bunnies!! At Dead Horse Ranch a saw very big deers, a doe and buck.
The museum is about Pancho Villa (who was a Mexican revolutionary) and the time he invaded the US town of Columbus NM in 1916. The park is the site where USA troops gathered to pursue Pancho Villa. The museum had great information about the political unrest in Mexico at the time. Before the attack on Columbus the USA supported Pancho Villa. Lots of theories and conspiracy theories abound with the reason Pancho Villa invaded. Some of the theories are about the involvement of Germany as WW I was occurring in Europe at the time. The USA was not involved at this time and only participated in 1917.
So this was the site of the first AFB.
Gotta love those bi-planes!
And the last armed invasion of a foreign country's army on mainland USA.
A move from Horse power to motor power.
What do you think Travis? Motor not much changed?
Cars
And iconic water tanks
And noon it is , so off to Palomas Mexico.
Downtown main street
And loads and loads of souveniers at the Pink store.
Had lunch in the Pink store at the Cafe.
With full tummies we returned the 3 miles to our little motorhome in the desert .
