Topok. March. 13

Got our kicks
On route 66
What a thrill driving down this iconic road. Opened in 1926 it ran from Chicago to Los Angeles. Gradually it has disappeared as Interstates replaced it. Bits and pieces remain.
This piece from Topok to Kingman is narrow with little or no shoulders, curvy, steep drop offs while it winds it's way through the mountains. The views are spectacular!
Valleys and mountain sides turned orange with theses little flowers.

Picture from the top of the pass
Also there was a memorial or cemetery at the  top of the pass.

We were stopped for about an hour while a gun fight played out in Oatman.

In Kingman we visited the Route 66 Museum and the Electric Car Museum.
Route 66 History in  3 pictures.

Electric Cars have a longer history then you can imagine.

Production - 1907  to 1938
Range - 80 miles with a record of 112 miles
Batteries - four 6V. Charging time 6-8 hours
Top speed - 20 mph.
Hmmmmm.

Followed by some shopping and return by the Interstate. Flat, wide - 4 lanes with shoulders and straight. Not sure why this was not the original route. Hmmmmm
