Rock Hound st.pk. March 08

Travel today went well. We went past White Sands National Park. It was somewhat visible from the highway. It's on our list of places to see next time. The white sand is gypsum  and not silica.The dunes have a very unique ecosystem as there is little surface water. What there is is very alkaline. Lots of fun facts about this place.

After the White Sands National Park comes the White Sands Misile testing site. Some times when there is testing happening the park is closed. Some times also the highway - up to two hours.

We arrived at Rock Hound st.pk where the desert was blooming.
As the name implies this is a great place to look for minerals and crystal's. Best of all you can collect and bring home rocks.


We also have a bag of bigger ones. Hoping we have a geode or two

After rock hounding we decided to watch a movie. However, we couldn't because once again the computer was gone. Not sure when it went missing and it's a mystry how someone got in to steal it.

Port Hardy/Port McNeil/Alert Bay. September 24, 2024

This is the only picture I took of Port McNeil. It's much like Port Hardy.  The big difference I noticed is that Port Hardy has a Save-on-Foods and Port McNeil has an IGA. This is where we caught the ferry over to Alert Bay. You only pay one way. Foot passengers pay $7.60 except seniors who pay $0. I pays to get old! This is the first sign you see when getting off the ferry. This is the second one. Our first stop was at the visitor centre. The woman there had lived her whole life except 8 months in Calgary in Alert Bay.  She's First Nation and was very active in the community. She shared the many First Nations sites in Alert Bay. There are 2 burial grounds currently being used and one historical, a long house, many totems throughout the village and a cultural centre. She recommended seeing the cultural centre to start. It is still 🔥🌞🌞🔥 Every morning at 8:30 this playground fills up with noisy children. It's our walk up call. What a joyful noise to wake up to. This picture is from our front window. The breakfast restaurant is right under the green. Our room has a 'balcony' which translate to sliding balcony doors with a waist high plexiglass barrier so you can't leave the room. Our day was spent at the resort. Lots of relaxing in the shade 😎, eating 🍝, and happy hours 🍷🍸🍹🍺.            Loving all inclusive!
