Quartzite. March 11

Another day on the road.  I saw a  Road Runner. They are so cute. A little more agriculture on this part of the road. They were already harvesting but I don't think it was hay.

I picked these from the gravel at our site which is about 1/10 th quartzite. A town well named.
We spent the afternoon scoping out the various and numerous rock shops. Most of what was there was not local. Boxes and boxes of unfinished rocks - minerals and crystals. It seems that amethyst is from Brazil. I believe that people buy the unfinished stones to polish and then resell. There are major gem and rock shows in January and February.

Lots and of these all over the place. They are street legal. There is literally hundreds of thousand of acres  of great  ATVing. Many of these folks boondock camp. Which is like what we used to do on crown land. So no campgrounds, no hookup and no fees.

And camels.
Prior to the civil war there was an attempt to bring camels to move stuff across the desert. When the civil war started the organizer became the leader of the confederacy. The camels were let go in the desert. The last spotting of one was in the 1940's.
