Chauvin. February 11
We went to the Piggly Wiggly for a King Cake.
What is a King Cake you ask. Well, let me tell you. King Cakes were originally made for the Feast of the Epiphany January 06. This is when the three kings arrived to give gifts to baby Jesus. It is also The Twelfth Night as in 12 days after Christmas.
What does this have to do with Mardi Gras you ask. Well let me tell you. The whole thing grew, ideas changed and eventually you could only eat King Cake from Epiphany to Mardi Gras aka Fat Tuesday or Pancake Tuesday. The last day before Lent (solemn preparation for Easter) when fasting was the expectation. So eat up all the good stuff before the fasting begins.
It's really yummy !!!!
With such a spectacular dessert a truly magnificent dinner was needed. So back to...
to our shrimp market where we bought another 2lbs of jumbo shrimp. This time I had all the ingredients I needed. However, it's not crab bomb but crab and shrimp boil. It was every bit as good as the first batch.
