New Orleans or Bust Jan 8
The sound of rain beating down on us woke us. I lay there enjoying the sound but Dave launched into action. We had left the sky light opened. Opps! Only a little water and no damage. Crisis avoided.
When we woke for the day it was cloudy and cold only 19°. Laundry seemed the best way to spend the day. So with 80 quarters we were off to the laundromat.
We made a stop at the visitors center where we gathered maps and books and information. Port Aransas is the largest commercial fishing spot on the whole of the Texas Gulf coast.
How could we not go out for fish. So lunch at Virginia's on the Beach we had.
The place was very open air. There were several grackles joining us for the meal.
I had the catch of the day, grilled flounder and we started with popcorn shrimp. Most nummy.
We found out at the visitor center that us and our kind are referred to as winter Texans. Dave was dressed up right.
After all the fun we returned home to put away the laundry, have a little rest followed by a little walk to see the ocean. Just wanted to make sure it was still there.
Later that night Suki and I went out for our last walk of the day. We had walked out past the garbage cans at the end of camp group when Suki suddenly barked. She was in full pursuit of some thing I say running past us. I reined her in to find a coyote was following us. I tried to scare it away but it was very interested in Suki who was in my arms. As there was no one close I started walking to ward the camp ground. The coyote was not behaving aggressively and seemed to lose interest the closer we got to people.
Got back safe, Suki intact, had a gin and watched a movie.
