Laredo Texas. January 14&15

We have settled into our campsite at Casa Blanca Lake State park. There is an old building that was used as a museum for awhile which is referred to as the first White House.

Laredo was my choice of places to visit. Mostly to see the Rio Grande river/border. I have my Dad to thank for this urge. Secondly to eat some authentic TexMex thanks for this goes to my Mom.

We went to Slaughter Park to find Mexico and the border.

I must tell the story of my close encounters with Bordet Patrol Police. Dave prompted by me decided to take the road less traveled. Finding a small path winding it's way past a maintenance yard, a private property, pole with cameras on it we found the Rio Grande with a great view of Mexico. While taking some photos a Border Patrol helicopter flew over. On our way back we walked the paths more often traveled. Arriving back at the car which was parked by itself at the far end of the park
there was a Border Patrol car. Sorry no picture of the cop car. I decided to take the picture of the gate ( as seen above). By this time the Border Patrol car had moved past us but still waiting. By this time I was sure we were going to be stopped. To my great disappointment/relief we were not approached.

As you might expect Laredo has a wealth of history. Little Miss Google suggested several museums and the historic downtown.  So off we went
to see what we could see. When we arrived at Plaza San Augustine it was lovely and well kept also San Augustine church.
Most everything else was closed (including the museims) and absolutly nothing quaint.
One restored house with no info posted.
Not to be daunted we walked around a couple blocks. Went into a clothing store and bought a jump suit and top. Total cost $4.
Fun fact : Laredo is 95% hispanic. This explains why none of resturant staff spoke a word of English. Made the food that much more authentic.

And that my friends it the story of Laredo.
