Port Angeles and back
This is the tale of the Kyle-Patch Crazy Train adventure on August 31, 2022.
We were up by 4am to catch the 6:30 Black Ball ferry to Port Angeles. We managed to arrive at the terminal 30 minutes before they open. I hate to be late but really...
We passed American Customs before boarding. After we landed at 8am we had to pass American Customs again. The officer seemed totally confused by the notion we were only going for the day. The conversation went like this:
Officer: Only for a day hmmmm what do you plan to do?
Us: Walk around town.
Officer: And after you walk around?
Us: Go to a restraint.
Officer ( looking at us like we are crazy) : And after eating?
Us (wondering what this was leading to) : Walk some more
Officer (looking at as quizzically) : Go on ahead. Have a nice day ( shaking his head and giving a confused little chuckle).
We hit the streets of Port Angeles with vim, vigar and great enthusiasm. However, absolutly nothing was open! So we walked and did a lot of window shopping. On our walk we discovered many, many watering holes. There is a wonderful pup crawl in our future. Perhaps more appropriately I should say a pup crawl full of wonder and wandering!!
Finally nearly collapsing from hunger we bought some premade sandwiches from a local grocery store having previously nixing Subway.
The thinking then was to have lunch at a lovely pub with an outside patio ( we had Suki with us). While we were outside scoping out said pub one of the kitchen staff ventured out to the street. He was most jovial, shared with us what was cooking, assured us Suki would be welcome on the deck, and wished us a blessed day! What more could anyone ask.
At this point we walked back to the waterfront to wait till opening time. I was looking for a place to rest my weary bones (read: my back was killing me). Dave sat with me and shared that he was darned tired after all the walking and early rising. We agreed it was time to finish the adventure.
Next ferry was at 12:30pm. So off we went to the ferry terminal. After much time and help from a staff member we managed to fill in the ArriveCan app. We were then allowed to board the ferry.
Arriving back in Canada we had to pass through Canadian Customs. Masks were mandatory and I must say I panicked a little having not brought one. Luck was with us as they were giving them out.
Next hurdle was the customs officer who was equality confused perhaps conserned about why we went to the US for one day. There was not one question about Suki - I had carried her complete heath portfolio, did not look at our ArriveCan Qcode which I was particularily proud off, and was not wished a blessed day!!!!
Moral of the story never arrive in small town America before Noon!
